after two days of sitting mostly in the bus we made our first stop to visit the monastery in shigatse.
in some areas taking photographs is strictly prohibited as it was in the maitreya temple in which a 26 meter golden buddha sits on his lotus throne. in other rooms pictures are allowed if you pay for an extra ticket.
the halls and rooms are mostly packed with statues of all kinds. wood, clay and brass, painted in bright colours or with gold. it is amazing how much there is to see within these walls.
after 77 rooms and several staircases the top of the stupa welcomes the visitor and also offers a great view over shigatse and the monastery.
